BBC Breakfast hosts say they’ll walk out mid show and ask co-star to step in

BBC Breakfast presenters Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden were noticeably eager to wrap up their Sunday morning duties early, as they discussed the possibility of getting warm by the fire after a chilly start.

The UK, particularly Wales and Northern regions, felt the force of winter on Saturday (January 4), with Britons greeted by a blanket of snow the next day. Scotland’s chill didn’t seem to dampen spirits, though, as guest Jim McNarry from Alston offered assurances that “most Scots will not be deterred by the weather today” while viewers admired images of his snowy locale.

Charmed by the postcard-perfect scenery of thick snow, the presenters expressed an impromptu wish to join McNarry in his snug cottage setting. Jim extended a friendly invitation: “You’re welcome to have breakfast anytime,” eliciting a playful response from Ben: “You’ll regret that Jim, we’re on our way.”

Rachel was particularly enthused by the idea of cosying up in Scotland, reports the Express.

Imagining a leisurely afternoon by a roaring fire, she mused: “Do you know what the thought of getting up there, snuggling down by the fire and having a full-on roast this afternoon, absolute heaven.”

Ben casually proposed to Rachel: “Shall we go? ” to which she heartily concurred: “Yes,” even cheekily suggesting to fellow presenter Jane Dougall, “Would you mind taking over?”

Initially, Jane appeared supportive, replying: “OK, fine, I’ll hold the fort. Go for it.” She soon reconsidered with a patriotic quip: “It should be me going up there because that’s my country, isn’t it?.”

Ben carefully reminded viewers: “We’ve got about 20 minutes left and you’ve got to keep an eye on the sports today.” While in yesterday’s BBC Breakfast, they ventured a bit off-target with their coverage. The programme featured an interview with Darts Champion Luke Littler that had fans buzzing for the wrong reasons.

The audience was soon sidetracked by a visual blunder which led them to flood social media platforms with their reactions. Onlookers spotted a graphic of a dart seemingly hovering just behind presenter Ben Thompson’s head.

This gaffe gave the illusion that Ben was impaled by the dart, sparking a flurry of amused comments online. Over on platform X, one observer quipped: “We were worried about that! We thought Ben had a ‘Double 10’ on the back of his napper.”

A second chimed in with some light-hearted advice: “Your presenters should wear hard hats. Doctor I feel a sharp pain in the back of my head.”

A third commenter joined in with cheerful emojis, and co-host Sarah Campbell moved swiftly to allay viewers’ concerns.

Her tweet read: “The new World Darts Champion @LukeTheNuke180 speaking on @BBCBreakfast. And worry not … @BenThompsonTV is fine.. despite apparently being speared by a mammoth dart (thanks to all the concerned viewers who flagged).”
