BBC Breakfast in fresh backlash over ‘weird and cringe’ Traitors star interview

Viewers of BBC Breakfast certainly had a lot to say after an eye-catching interview with the first contestant shown the door from The Traitors.

The popular BBC murder mystery game show made its anticipated return on New Year’s Day, kicking off its third season with a new batch of participants.

Returning as host for the highly-rated series was Claudia Winkleman who designated Linda, Minah and Armani as the season’s Traitors. The rest of the cast were identified as the Faithful, and by Wednesday’s episode, the Traitors faced the difficult decision of choosing their first victim.

Ultimately, they targeted communication scientist Yin, making her the initial casualty and marking her exit from the series. Post-elimination, Yin appeared on BBC Breakfast for a post-show interview.

The Mirror reports she joined presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty for a chat which took an unexpected turn when she demonstrated her surprising skill.

During the conversation, Charlie highlighted Yin’s musical talents, leading to an impromptu performance live on air. Embracing her role from The Traitors, Yin launched into a unique rendition of R.

Kelly’s iconic hit I Believe I Can Fly, with altered lyrics: “I believe I can lie, I believe I can falsify, plan a murder every night and day, to make the Faithfuls all go away.”

Yin certainly did not hold back as she delivered another song on the theme of love for the presenters. However, viewers didn’t share the enthusiasm, quickly heading to social media to express their dismay.

One viewer tweeted: “#BBCBreakfast That woman from #traitors was pure cringe.” Another chimed in with a less than impressed comment: “For goodness sake. That bloody woman from the Traitors is doing my head in. Not interested in her chirruping away with the birds nest on her head.”

Yin began to sing which annoyed fans

Another viewer was left perplexed and sought answers online: “#bbcbreakfast what have I just watched #traitors.” A fourth said: “#bbcbreakfast this woman is so me, me, me and singing was just weird #traitors.”

After being voted off early, Yin expressed her concerns over the remaining Traitors’ strategy, believing them to be too “chaotic” and lacking coordination. She predicted catastrophe unless they can master one ultimate act of deception to realign themselves and remain undetected.

In the interview, Yin remarked: “They are too chaotic as a three, you can tell already they are not going to work together. They’ve got the wrong combination of people. As individuals they are all phenomenal but as a trio they don’t congeal. Armani and Minah appear tight-knit, whereas Linda seems a weaker link, attempting to stay under the radar.

Jake’s suspicions about her were in fact correct. She ought to have been more overt since his hunch was spot-on. They’re already at odds in their observations about each other, which certainly doesn’t bode well, it spells a negative first impression that’s set in stone.”

She added: “There should be more respect and admiration, they should be excited to work together but Minah thinks Armani is on another team. She’s already clocked that they do not have a team, and Linda says Armani is doing too much. I can’t see them lasting for very long, that’s the honest truth.”

Reflecting on her early departure from the show, Yin admitted feeling let down. She shared: “I didn’t get a breakfast, or a roundtable or a proper mission with everyone involved. These are all critical ingredients in this whole experience that I missed out on so it feels disappointing.”

BBC Breakfast airs Monday to Saturday on BBC One, from 6am.
