BBC Breakfast’s Sarah Campbell had to step in and reassure viewers after a hilarious on-screen mishap led some to believe her co-presenter Ben Thompson had been impaled by a dart. The pair were interviewing the new PDC World Darts Champion, 17 year old Luke Littler, on Saturday morning (January 5) when fans noticed something rather amusing.
As they discussed Luke’s remarkable triumph, the dart graphic on the screen appeared to be sticking out of Ben’s head, prompting a flurry of online jokes. Sarah, who was sitting alongside Ben on the famous sofa for the chat with Luke, quickly realised what viewers were pointing out and took to social media to address the comical confusion.
She tweeted: “The new World Darts Champion @LukeTheNuke180 speaking on @BBCBreakfast. And worry not … @BenThompsonTV is fine.. despite apparently being speared by a mammoth dart (thanks to all the concerned viewers who flagged).”

According to The Express, one fan joked: “We were worried about that! We thought Ben had a Double 10 on the back of his napper.”
Another added to the banter regarding presenter safety: “Your presenters should wear hard hats. Doctor I feel a sharp pain the back of my head,” which saw Sarah reply with a laughing emoji, reports the Mirror.
One thrilled fan was just as relieved, using a smiley with a thumbs up emoji to express comfort over Sarah’s clarification. People were full of admiration for Luke’s victory too, one of them commented: “What an amazing final, and what an incredibly talented man.”
Another chimed in, “Now and again a person injects life into a sport, Lake Littler has done exactly that for darts! Sarah.”
Ben, the presenter, was eager to get Luke’s thoughts on his monumental achievement at such a young age. .
He questioned him, “Luke, the title, youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion, you’re 18 in a couple of weeks, a lot of people talk about your age and being able to be win such an amazing achievement at your age, does that ever go through your mind? “.
“Or do you think this is perfectly normal and what you would be doing? “.
With modesty, Luke answered, “It’s not a normal 17 year old’s life but it just goes back to my mum and dad did everything, got the right sponsors for me and the sponsors did a whole for me.”
