BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty tells co-star ‘good luck’ as they suffer blunder

BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt experienced an amusing hiccup during Friday’s broadcast. While updating BBC viewers he mentioned that more than a thousand visually impaired individuals are in need of assistance from guide dogs.

The show highlighted the critical need for volunteer puppy raisers with a pre-recorded segment featuring Phil Mackie interacting with the guide dog charity.

Following the segment, Charlie informed viewers that there would be a more in-depth discussion on the topic later in the program. Co-host Naga Munchetty observed: “I mean, you’ve got beautiful puppies doing a good thing, can’t go wrong!”

To which Charlie responded, “It’s worth saying a little later on this morning, at 8:40, we’ll be talking to guide dogs themselves-“.

He quickly realized his error and clarified that he and Naga would actually be speaking with representatives from the guide dog organisation, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Naga teased him about the gaffe, humorously retorting: “I was going to say good luck if you’re going to have a conversation with a guide dog!”

Charlie joked about the slip-up, suggesting: “Why not try it? ! Maybe we should try it! Look, a lot of people talk to their dogs, they get enormous satisfaction from it. Nothing wrong with that, I’m not going to knock that.”

But Naga humorously pointed out a minor problem dogs can’t actually participate in an interview.

She answered: “No, I don’t think it would be the best interview to watch.” Their exchange ended with laughter as Charlie speculated, “I think it would!”

Charlie let viewers in on the upcoming segment by mentioning that a seven-month-old puppy named Herbie, who is currently undergoing training to be a volunteer, will visit the studio.

He commented: “It’s amazing work they do, so we’ll find out more about that a bit later on.” To which Naga responded: “You know we have klaxon’s, we should have a cuteness alert as well, shouldn’t we?”

However, Naga experienced a minor blunder this week while speaking with Scott Nelson, an eyewitness from the New Orleans incident.

As she welcomed him to Thursday’s programme, she said: “Scott, hello to you. I know you are not in New Orleans now but you were there. Can you just tell me what you knew as the incident was happening because you was inside a nightclub.”

Scott corrected her: “Good Morning, I actually am still in New Orleans. The scene is directly behind me. I was in a nightclub probably 30 metres or so from the scene where the truck crashed and immediately we saw people fleeing the scene and law enforcements running towards it.”

Naga swiftly apologised upon realizing her error, saying: “It’s very clear that you are still shaken and you are still in the city of New Orleans now, my apologies.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
