BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst had to say sorry to her co-host Jon Kay on air during Tuesday’s show. The pair were teasing what was coming up later in the programme, including a look at Jon’s appearance on Celebrity Mastermind.
They showed a snippet of Jon in the hot seat, with Clive Myrie asking him: “The five-letter word telly is an informal name for what household appliance? ” Jon got it spot on with ‘television’, and Clive confirmed he was correct.
Back in the studio, Jon playfully ribbed Nina, saying: “You’d never of got that would you? ” He explained that the questions got harder as the quiz went on.
Nina admitted to not having watched his performance yet, apologising: “I’ve not seen it yet, I’m sorry I’m a bad friend! How did it go?” as reported by the Express.
Jon, taking it in good humour, said: “I’m going to make you watch it!” He told Nina she hadn’t missed much and that the show went alright, even though she hadn’t caught the episode.
Nina praised Jon for his courage in facing the quiz, telling him: “I think you’re really brave to do it! I take my hat off to you.

Jon, surprised, responded: “I thought you had all done it. I thought it was a right of passage for being on this programme.”
Nina truly said she’d be far too nervous to take part in the quiz, worried her mind would just go blank on the spot.
On the programme, Jon joked to the camera: “I’m giving Clive your number!”
Jon took to the famous BBC show on Monday night, alongside celebs like Beattie Edmondson, Suzanne Shaw, and Glenn Moore. Each celebrity seated themselves in the iconic black chair, ready to face a breadth of questions for the good of their charity of choice.
It came out during the show that Jon had picked the legendary 80s comedy The Young Ones as his specialist subject. With 90 seconds on the clock, Jon managed to correctly answer nine questions, passing on a single one. Clive then touched on Jon’s gig presenting BBC Breakfast, asking, “Millions of people wake up to you, what’s it like realising that your face is the first face they see? “.
In response, Jon said: “I think it was the late Bill Turnbull who said: ‘The thing you’ve got to remember is lots of people are watching, which is scary, but a lot of them are in their pants!'”
He continued, “So that’s what you have to try to imagine, but also try not to imagine at the same time! It’s a massive responsibility, but people still turn to the telly in the morning to find out what’s happened overnight and what they need to know for the day ahead.”
