Monty Don has given an exciting update to Gardeners’ World fans about his future on the much-loved show. Having taken the helm from Alan Titchmarsh in 2003, Monty has become a familiar face to viewers, only stepping back for a short time between 2008 and 2011.
In a recent interview with Radio Times, he shared his plans: “I never make plans beyond two years, but I’ve agreed to do another two (from January 2025),” confirming that he will continue to delight fans for a little while longer. Monty commented on his thoughts about staying with the program: “Every time I think: ‘Am I really going to do this?
“But the truth is that I do enjoy it. I’m lucky because it’s in my own garden. If the programme is made well, I’ll continue.”
On top of his regular spot on Gardeners’ World, Monty is also gearing up to host a new show called Monty Don’s British Gardens, which will premiere January 10 at 8pm, showcasing spectacular gardens throughout Britain. After many years of traversing international gardens, Monty is excited to focus once more on domestic garden spaces, as he remarked: “I’ve been travelling the world visiting gardens since Around the World in 80 Gardens in 2008.”

Monty Don has been a regular fixture on television for years, featuring in numerous shows that spotlight the world of gardening. Besides his frequent appearances on BBC’s Gardeners’ World, Monty has recently been seen journeying to various countries like Japan, the US, and Spain, immersing himself in the diverse gardening practices found worldwide, according to the Express.
Eager to examine British gardening from a new angle, he said: “While Gardeners’ World is essentially practical, sharing the experience of how to garden, the travel programmes are more of a cultural thing: Why are people gardening here, what does it mean to them? “We suddenly thought, why don’t we look at our own back yard with the same kind of cultural, anthropological eye?, reports Devon Live.
