BBC Radio 2’s Vernon Kay says ‘this is a big gross’ as he discusses ‘personal hygiene’ mishap

Vernon Kay revealed a rather embarrassing “personal hygiene” mishap that unfolded while he was on live TV.

The 50-year-old told his BBC Radio 2 listeners that he spotted a “massive pimple” during his Wednesday morning show. However, Vernon says the blackhead grew as he presented alongside Alex Jones on The One Show later that night

It left Vernon reaching for his tweezers on Thursday morning. And the star was taken aback when he plucked a blackhead he felt “looked like a squid,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

He told listeners: “This is a bit gross but we’re all friends and it’s been two years now. I said to the team in the studio yesterday that I had a massive pimple and then it blossomed and bloomed on The One Show last night.

“This morning, crikey, we’ve got one of those really bad close-up mirrors, you know, one of those magnifying mirrors. The girls have got it on the main mirror in the bathroom and it multiplies the image by a lot.”

“So when you squeeze a blackhead, it looks like you’re squeezing the new forest, but when you step back and look in the normal mirror, you can’t really see anything, but in the close-up mirror it’s gross, it’s absolutely disgusting. Well, this thing this morning, crikey, I swear to goodness it came out in a straight line.”

“Now this is gross, and I know a lot of people are having lunch but you need to know, ’cause we’re friends and we’re an honest show, we don’t lie, we don’t BS, so what I had to do was get tweezers and pull it.”

“It was like a blackhead but it had legs. It was like a squid.”

Vernon’s admission sparked a reaction from producer Janine Maya-Smith, prompting him to quip: “It’s therapy for me talking to seven million people about personal hygiene.”

He confessed that picking a spot is “so addictive”. According to the NHS, a blackhead is a small, dark-coloured bump that appears on the skin.

They are not actually caused by dirt, it says. It explains they are black “because the inner lining of the hair follicle produces colour”.
