‘Beautiful’ Yorkshire pub rated 10/10 with ‘great beer, history and decor’

A beer lover with a big following on social media has described a Yorkshire pub as an ‘absolute stunner’ and rated it 10/10.

Dale Harvey singled out The Fox and Goose in Hebden Bridge for special praise as he enjoyed a pub crawl around the town that took in 16 different bars and pubs.

Dale, who has a sizeable online following for The Great British Pub Crawl, said the Fox and Goose “absolutely blew us away with its look, feel, history and beer line up.”

“Now a community owned pub – for the last 10 years – this absolute stunner is a proper pub and has a mega line up of both cask ales and keg options.

“The lady running the place is lovely and there’s some super history to read up on that will take you back to the 14th Century when an illegal ale house stood on this site.

“The building can certainly be dated back to the 1300s but it’s actual official uses over the years might be a little sketchy to know.

“It’s an absolute belter regardless of the history though and also carries a super beer garden up some stairs and out to the side… a magnificent 10/10 pub!”

Dale said the pub had plenty of history and was ‘pretty beautiful’, with stone floors, low ceilings and a fireplace.

He added: “It’s all about the beer and the beer is certainly as good as the building. It is stunning. This place is beautiful.”

Dale ventured into the beer garden and admired the views. “Fox and Goose, mind-blowingly good. Just everything about it – the beer choices, the people that run it, the fact it’s a community pub, the history behind it, just everything about it – absolutely loved it.”

The Fox and Goose has been a co-operative pub, run by the community, since it reopened in March 2014. It was West Yorkshire’s first community-run pub and back in 2014 was able to reopen thanks to cash from 259 investors ranging from £100 to £15,000.

Dale and his wife Holly visited 16 pubs on their Hebden Bridge pub crawl, including Stubbing Wharf, The Fox and Goose, Drink, Old Gate Bar, White Swan, The Wavy Steps Bar and Kitchen, The Hebden, The Old North, The Vault, The Trades Club, Nightjar, The Railway, Vocation & Co, The Famous Albert, Shoulder of Mutton and the White Lion Hotel.

Dale filmed the pub crawl for his YouTube channel which has more than 10,000 subscribers.
