Birmingham Airport tells passengers to do crucial thing as West Midlands braces for ‘hours of snow’

Birmingham Airport has urged passengers to check before they travel as the West Midlands braces for hours of snow. An amber Met Office alert for snow and ice warns of disruption to travel this weekend.

It comes into force at 6pm tonight (Saturday, January 4) and lasts until 12noon tomorrow lunchtime (Sunday, January 5). Ahead of the forecasted weather shift, birmingham -airport>Birmingham Airport told CoventryLive that all passengers due to fly out need to do one crucial thing.

It says that safety will be its ‘priority’ throughout this weekend and colleague will be on hand to help those set to travel. A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “Birmingham Airport operations are currently business as usual.

“Passengers who are travelling within the next 24 hours are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information/ advice regarding their flights and times, before coming to the airport.”

The latest Met Office maps show that it is set to arrive in Birmingham at around 6pm. It is due to last until the early hours of this morning, with people advised to be cautious.

However, while the amber Met Office alert for snow and ice ends at 12noon tomorrow, a yellow alert will remain in place until just before midnight tomorrow night (January 5). The weather forecast for Birmingham read: “Turning unsettled overnight with heavy snow in places.

“A dry start to the evening but snow moves northwards across much of the region overnight. Snow turns mostly to rain by dawn but with a risk of freezing rain in places. Icy conditions expected with sub zero temperatures. Minimum temperature -1 °C.”
