Birmingham school suddenly closes and pupils sent home after ‘gas leak’

A school was forced to close suddenly following a gas leak today. Pupils at Colmers School and Sixth Form, off Bristol Road South, in Rednal were sent home at 11.15am on Wednesday (Jan 8) after a leak was detected.

An alert was issued on their website explaining the situation. The management is working with the authorities to resolve the issue.

They said they would keep everyone informed of any updates when they arise. A statement said: “Dear Parents and Carers, I am writing to inform you of an urgent situation that has arisen at Colmers School and Sixth Form College.

“Due to a gas leak detected on the school premises, we must close the school site immediately. All students must leave the school at 11:15 AM today.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We are working closely with the relevant authorities to address the situation as quickly and safely as possible.”

The statement added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. We will keep you updated with any further developments.”
