Birmingham to ‘feel like -4C’ as freezing fog and ice hits city

Birmingham will shivver in sub-zero temperatures today, January 10. Forecasters at the Met Office have warned the temperature across Birmingham will “feel like -4C” with the coldest period to hit this morning from 9am.

The city woke up to widespread ice, frost, and bitterly cold temperatures as the wider West Midlands region braces for a bitterly cold weekend. Birmingham will feel dry and settled throughout Friday but stay cold and frosty in places.

From 9am it will hit -2C but “feel like -4C.” The temperature will remain cold and will still be 0C at 4pm.

West Midlands residents will need to wrap up warm if they are bracing the outdoors today as it will remain dry and cold with a hard frost setting in this evening.

On Friday’s forecast for Birmingham, the Met Office warned: “Cold and frosty to start with icy stretches in places and patchy freezing fog. Plenty of sunny spells through the morning, before wispy high cloud thickens into the afternoon masking the brightest sunshine.

“Remaining dry and cold with light winds. Maximum temperature 1 c.” Looking ahead to the weekend, the temperature will barely make it above 4C across Birmingham for Saturday and Sunday, owing to a cold and icy front moving in this evening.

Ahead of this evening, the Met Office warned: “Another cold evening with a hard frost and icy stretches forming overnight. Remaining dry with light winds, allowing freezing fog to develop in rural parts beneath clear skies. Minimum temperature -4 C.”
