A four-year-old boy has died after he was viciously mauled by his own grandmother’s two dogs when he was left alone at home.
Ravi Lucas Nascimento de Melo was attacked by a pitbull and another dog, who had been running loose in the garden, before finding their way into the house in Touros, Brazil, where the boy was watching TV on Wednesday. The tot was rushed to hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
The boy’s grandmother told medics that she had released the animals into the garden and went to the neighbour’s to get some medicine, while the child remained inside the house. While she was out, the dogs managed to enter the house and attacked the child. The grandmother heard her grandson’s screams and ran back to her house, but found the dogs already on top of little Ravi.

According to the Touros Health Department, the boy arrived at the Paulo de Almeida Machado Municipal Hospital without any signs of life. The doctors performed a CPR but were unable to revive him.
Medics said that the boy had suffered a deep, lacerating injury that affected part of his skull and neck. Locals say the grandmother has raised the boy from when he was very young and are supporting the family as they deal with the tragedy.
The case is being investigated by the Civil Police, who are currently looking into the circumstances of the attack and the living conditions of the animals in the family’s property. A post-mortem has already taken place and the tot’s body has been released back to his family.
