A top UK pub chain has offered Brits £1 pints for a week – provided they utter a specific phrase to their bartenders.
BrewDog, a massive multinational brewery and pub chain, has become one of the most popular home-grown brands in the UK since it was founded in Scotland in 2007. Over the years, the chain has also become known for its outlandish advertising campaigns, including its controversial spoof Pink IPA “beer for girls” which split opinions in 2018.
Pub bosses now seem to have settled on what is likely to be a much more popular move by offering the cheapest pint prices in the UK – albeit temporarily. BrewDog announced in a recent social media post that customers will be able to net £1 pints in England and Wales from next week.

Posting on its Instagram account with a block capitals “£1 pints of punk from next week” post, BrewDog said it would offer the deal to anyone who “can walk into our bars next week”. The deal, the post adds, lasts from Monday, January 20, to next Friday January 24, but prices will differ in Scotland, where pints will be priced at £1.92.
The post read: “This is not a trick, a scam, or a fever dream. You can walk into our bars next week and get a pint of Punk for £1. It’s that simple. Get down to a BrewDog bar between Monday 20th and Friday 24th January. Say the phrase ‘pint of Punk for a pound please’ if you’re in England/Wales or a ‘brew for ninety-two’ in Scotland. And enjoy.”
The chain added a caveat explaining why the pints cost slightly more further north, which it said was due to the Scottish government’s legally mandated minimum costs. The post continued: “For drinkers in Scotland: it’s £1.92 pints for you. That is literally the cheapest we are allowed to make them, by law. If that seems unfair, take it up with the authorities, not us.”

BrewDog’s announcement was well received by its followers, with one Instagram user saying: “Yesss. That’s how you do it.” Another excited drinker said the deal would likely put an end to their Dry January plans, adding: “Well, there goes my Dry January. Try again next year.”
While the deal will prove enticing for thousands of people, BrewDog specified a host of terms and conditions in the comments, adding they would help people see there wasn’t a “catch” involved. The chain specified that the deal was not usable with any other offers or discounts, is only available with the correct phrasing, and wouldn’t be available for takeaway orders.
Some locations have also been excluded from the deal, including BrewDogs in Hull, Upminster, Edinburgh Waverley, Edinburgh Airport, Gatwick Airport, and Belfast Grand Central.
