British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON, Octopus customers have been urged to switch off their washing machines in a bid to save cash. The experts at Love 2 Laundry, have shared that an easy way to cut down on costs is to do your laundry during the most efficient time of day.
The expert said in a warning: “The best time to do laundry to save electricity is to avoid peak hours which are from 4pm to 8pm, and if you do laundry on the weekend, then you can save more electricity than the normal consumption.”
The expert said: “Peak hours are the time when the per unit charge of electricity consumption is doubled because people use all the electronic appliances simultaneously, and for that, more electricity is required.”

They went on, adding: “These hours start from 11pm to 7am, and the unit consumption is low during this time and when you run your washing machine for an hour or two non-stop, it won’t take a lot of electricity.”
The expert went on and also said: “The best time to do laundry to save electricity is to check the weather first, see if the sun is shining brighter or wind is blowing strongly. These conditions will allow your clothes to dry quickly.”
It comes as the new Ofgem price cap is introduced for UK households. Miatta Fahnbulleh, the minister for energy consumers, said: “As long as Britain remains exposed to the rollercoaster of global fossil fuel markets, we will be vulnerable to energy price rises over which we have no control.”
The minister spoke out as the January 1 price cap came in, adding: “The government’s clean energy mission is the route to protecting consumers and bringing down bills for good, which is why this government is delivering a new era of clean electricity for our country.”
