Brits face £1,600 fine for doing one thing in Spain that’s allowed at home

While Spain promises the lure of cheap holidays and beautiful beaches, experts have warned the sunshine dream may turn into a nightmare if Brits don’t take notice of a law. They urged people planning to head to sunny Spain to seriously consider the location of their next beach break – especially if they are one of the 4.6 million Brits that vape or six million smokers.

Nicotine and vaping experts at WickdUp warned of the serious issues that face unaware holidaymakers caught smoking vapes on beaches across Spain – including a fine of £1,600 (2,000 euros). In the UK, when it comes to vaping and outdoor events, it is not illegal to vape in public, and although each individual business or venue owner has the right to decide whether vaping is allowed, generally, it is allowed at open-air events.

While Spain is generally considered to be quite relaxed when it comes to sales and regulations, one of the newer regulations which has been introduced in the country surrounds smoking and vaping on beaches. Smoking is not permitted on any beach in Spain, but more recently 28 beaches on the Balearic Islands, as well as 10 beaches in Barcelona and others across the country, have added vaping as well.

Mike Byers, vape expert of WickdUp, said: “While it may be tempting to sneakily use your vape whilst relaxing on the beach, it is important to abide by local regulations and laws. Some countries lack the vape shop culture we have in the UK, so stocking up on disposable vapes and liquids can also be important – if that country allows travellers to include it in their luggage.

“Many EU countries still allow vaping in public spaces, but make sure you check local jurisdiction before paying any holiday deposits. If in doubt, use Gov.uk to seek advice whenever unsure and stay up to date with laws and regulations in every country.”

Mike suggested destinations such as Bulgaria, Greece and Croatia for Brits who want to vape on the beach.
