A caravan has been completely destroyed by fire in a suspected arson attack in Devon. Multiple fire crews were called to the scene of the vehicle fire around 7pm yesterday evening, Sunday, December 29.
At 6.59pm, fire crews rushed to the vehicle fire in the village of Whimple, near Exeter. On their arrival, firefighters found a caravan being consumed by the flames of a fire that had taken hold.
Using specialist equipment, emergency services worked to extinguish the blaze, however, the caravan was completely destroyed due to the fire. Crews left the scene around 8.31pm.
It is not thought that anyone was injured during the fire. The fire service has said the cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate, Devon and Cornwall Police has also been contacted for comment.
A statement from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire Control received calls reporting a possible caravan fire and mobilised one appliance from Ottery St Mary and one appliance from Middlemoor, Exeter. On arrival crews confirmed one caravan was well alight.
Crews used one hose reel jet, one thermal imaging camera and lighting to extinguish the caravan which was 100% destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate.”
