Claudia Winkleman admits she ‘can’t tell’ when she’s being lied to after daughter revelation

TV host Claudia Winkleman has confessed that she often struggles to realise when she’s being deceived, admitting that her daughter has been fibbing about completing her homework for years.

In a chat with Radio Times, the 52-year-old presenter deliberated over whether she’d rather be a Traitor or a Faithful on the popular BBC programme The Traitors.

She expressed a preference for being a Faithful due to her claimed inability to detect dishonesty. She elaborated: “I think I’d prefer to be a Faithful, but I genuinely have no idea if someone is lying to me. My 18-year-old told me she’d done all her homework for years.”

While Claudia Winkleman has once again captured the nation’s attention with the runaway success of The Traitors, it wasn’t always certain that she would return for another season.

The Strictly Come Dancing host revealed that she almost didn’t sign up for a second series, but was convinced to do so following the success of the first.

Speaking to The Sun, Claudia disclosed that she sent a succinct four-word message to the BBC after they decided to renew the show, adding that the team was “winded” by its nationwide triumph.

She stated: “The success of the first series literally winded us. I said to the BBC: ‘Let’s just leave it. This magical thing happened. Enough!’ The head of the BBC said she wanted to take my temperature,” reports Birmingham Live.

However, after some contemplation, Claudia decided to take the plunge and join The Traitors, expressing her excitement about being part of the show.

She said: “I love meeting the contestants for the first time, and I particularly love trying to be invisible at the roundtable and watching it all unfold. I love every single part of hosting The Traitors.”

As the current season continues to enjoy the popularity of its predecessor, more details have emerged about Claudia’s initial reluctance to join the programme.

Speaking on Gabby Logan’s ‘The Mid Point’ podcast, she confessed that her first instinct was to decline the offer due to her home commitments.

Claudia revealed: “The Traitors is something that I initially turned down, because you know I don’t like leaving my bed or the kids, and they were like, ‘Would you go to Scotland for three and a half weeks?’

“And I was like, ‘I don’t think so.’ And then I watched the Dutch version. I became so obsessed, I sent an email to Kate Phillips – who offered me the job, works at the BBC – saying, ‘I booked a train, I want to do this more than anything.’

“Because it is a privilege to watch the psychology and the gameplay up close….It’s the thrill of my life.”
