Claudia Winkleman ‘can’t tell’ when she’s being lied to after incident at home

TV presenter Claudia Winkleman has admitted that she sometimes can’t tell when she’s being lied to as she jokes that her daughter has been lying about doing her homework for years.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Claudia, 52, discussed whether she’d prefer to be a Traitor or a Faithful on the hit BBC show The Traitors. In response, she said she would prefer to be a Faithful because of her alleged inability to tell when someone is lying to her.

She explained: “I think I’d prefer to be a Faithful, but I genuinely have no idea if someone is lying to me. My 18-year-old told me she’d done all her homework for years.”

Whilst Claudia Winkleman has once again been propelled into the heart of the nation’s minds thanks to the runaway success of The Traitors, it wasn’t always guaranteed she would be at the heart of the show for another season.

Not long ago, the former Strictly Come Dancing presenter admitted she nearly didn’t come back for a second series, but was persuaded to after the triumph of the first.

Claudia told The Sun that she sent a four-word message to the BBC following their decision to recommission the show and said that the crew was “winded” by its nationwide success.

She said: “The success of the first series literally winded us. I said to the BBC: ‘Let’s just leave it. This magical thing happened. Enough!’ The head of the BBC said she wanted to take my temperature.”

However, after taking some time to reconsider her position, Claudia decided that she would “go anywhere to play The Traitors”, adding that she was “incredibly lucky” to be part of the show.

She remarked: “I love meeting the contestants for the first time, and I particularly love trying to be invisible at the roundtable and watching it all unfold. I love every single part of hosting The Traitors.”

As the current season of The Traitors continues the popularity of the previous edition, more information has been coming to light about Claudia’s near lack of involvement with the programme.

Speaking on Gabby Logan’s ‘The Mid Point’ podcast, she admitted that her instinct had initially been to turn it down because of her home life.

Claudia said: “The Traitors is something that I initially turned down, because you know I don’t like leaving my bed or the kids, and they were like, ‘Would you go to Scotland for three and a half weeks?

“And I was like, ‘I don’t think so.’ And then I watched the Dutch version. I became so obsessed, I sent an email to Kate Phillips – who offered me the job, works at the BBC – saying, ‘I booked a train, I want to do this more than anything.’

“Because it is a privilege to watch the psychology and the gameplay up close….It’s the thrill of my life.”
