Coleen Rooney has spoken about her marriage to Wayne, decisions involving children and the challenging move away from Merseyside as a special guest on Sky Bet’s ‘Stick to Football’. The Liverpool mum has been in the spotlight recently after being crowned runner-up on I’m a Celebrity.

Viewers were treated to anecdotes from Coleen as she spoke about Wayne’s heartfelt gesture of love letters when they were young and proposal at a petrol station right up until their married life today and the house they share with their four boys.

Offering a further insight into the life of the married couple and their family, Coleen sat down with the panel of the YouTube show which includes Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Jill Scott, Ian Wright and Gary Neville. Highlighting one of the ‘biggest challenges’ she has faced with her family as the move to America.

Wayne Rooney and his family moved to Washington, D.C. in 2018 when he joined D.C. United from Everton. Coleen has previously said that she struggled to adapt to life in the U.S. without the support of her family. She said that she experienced homesickness and found it difficult to face time with her parents. He stayed at the club as manager and left on October 7, 2023, after the club and Rooney mutually agreed to part ways. The announcement came after the team was eliminated from the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.

In the new interview, she said: “[Moving to America] was a big challenge. My youngest was six months, so to pick up a family was a lot. We agreed to go and looked at it as an adventure for a few years. Wayne went before us, and I waited until school finished [for the kids] and then planned on going for two years – then come back again for my eldest to go to secondary school.”

Coleen and Wayne have a tight-knit family and are the parents to four children. The I’m a Celebrity star married former Manchester United striker in 2008 and the couple share four sons, Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass Mac.

The 38-year-old put her children first throughout the difficult transfer from the UK to America. She revealed her first thoughts were “as long as the kids were ok.” The Liverpool mum wanted to make sure the schools in the country were good but faced a hurdle when the nearest British school was in DC, which is an hour away from where the Rooney’s were moving.

Coleen added: “In the end, I had to put my foot down and say no, we’ll move to where the school is, and he [Wayne] will have to travel into training. If we went as a couple and not with the kids, it would have been fine.”

Coleen and Wayne Rooney moved into a sprawling Cheshire mansion worth £20 million back in 2021. The luxury estate boasts a football pitch, a wine cellar, a cinema and a swimming pool with separate jacuzzi. A promotional piece published by developers Brighouse Homes reveals the home also includes its own library.

The newly-built home’s official name is High Lake Manor and it sits on 50 acres of old farmland. It is worlds apart from the modest Croxteth homes Coleen and Wayne grew up in.
