Coronation Street’s Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, has decided to leave the soap to pursue new acting opportunities. The 22-year-old actor has already completed filming his last scenes, which are set to air in early spring.
The show’s producers have been preparing for his departure since March, crafting an exit storyline that coincides with significant upheaval for the Platt family.
Speaking to The Mirror, Bever expressed his difficult decision: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”
The young star, who clinched the rising star award at the National Television Awards in 2022, shared his gratitude towards the show’s bosses for the opportunity to portray Max’s intricate narrative since taking over the role from Harry McDermott in 2021.
“It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show,” he remarked. “This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”, reports the Mirror.

Max, the son of David Platt’s first wife Kylie, was first introduced to viewers in 2010. After spending time in foster care, Kylie regained custody of him despite initially selling him to her sister Becky McDonald (played by Katherine Kelly) for £20,000.
Kylie’s husband David stepped up as a father figure for Max after her tragic murder in 2016, with David and his second wife Shona (played by Julia Goulding) raising him. Max, who has ADHD and was expelled from school, fell prey to a far-right group and ended up in a youth detention centre.
However, he’s since made a positive turnaround and is currently dating Lauren Bolton. His departure from the show is expected to revolve around a significant fire at No. 8, the Platt family home since 1991, which will be destroyed just weeks after Gail Platt left for France with her new partner Jesse (John Thomson).

Paddy is leaving amid several other cast departures, some by choice and others written out of the storyline. Corrie executives have dismissed any talk of crisis, citing the natural “ebb and flow” of characters in Weatherfield.
Long-standing actors such as Sue Cleaver and Shelley King had informed the production team well in advance, allowing storylines to be crafted for their exits.
Paddy gave producers a 10-month notice that he would leave at the end of his contract. A source shared: “He finished filming at the end of 2024 and will exit as part of a huge upcoming storyline for the Platt family. Everyone at Corrie loves Paddy and we wish him every success for the future.”
“This is not a surprise or a shock and is all part of the ebb and flow of characters from the show. We have many new characters joining in the coming weeks and months – and also some returning characters.”

Those departing include Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), who will remain on screen till 2026. Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, along with Luca Toolan as Mason Radcliffe, who was killed off earlier this month, are set to exit after Smith’s contract ended.
New boss Kate Brooks, who took over in November after six years at Emmerdale, has hinted that 2025 will bring significant changes, commenting, “There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves.”
