Corrie's Simon Gregson breaks cover next to 'for sale' sign day after 'estranged wife' mystery

Simon Gregson has been seen for the first time amid reports he could be forced to sell his house if he doesn’t repay a hefty loan, as he stood next to a ‘for sale’ sign.

The Coronation Street actor, who plays Steve McDonald in the ITV soap, must pay back a £252,000 loan he took from his production firm. Official papers have shown Simon, along with wife Emma, must repay Simon Gregson Productions a sum of £1,500 per month. The paperwork states the couple, who have been married for 14 years, are no longer together.

However, Corrie sources insisted the couple are happily married. They had three years to pay back the debt, according to the report, and if they failed to do so, it was agreed they would sell their family home. Following the Mirror’s report, Simon broke his cover as he was seen outside a house with a ‘for sale’ sign.

He wrapped up in a thick grey coat with fur hood and wore black gloves and a Stussy cap. Simon stepped out into the snow as he appeared to be putting out a wheelie bin before rubbing his hands together to keep warm.

The report read: “The Director had an overdrawn loan account of £252,824. The analysis also revealed that this money was removed from the Company’s bank account and paid into Mr Gregory’s joint bank account with his estranged wife. Therefore, any claim would be addressed to both individuals.”

Simon liquidated Simon Gregson Productions Ltd in 2023, owing £165,000 to HMRC and Coutts bank for a Covid bounceback loan. It was revealed last year he was selling his office equipment in a bid to pay his debts. He had offered the furniture plus £6,000 in cash to try and settle some of what he owes.

An initial report said: “Due to the age and condition of the equipment it is anticipated any realisations will be minimal.” Simon has played Steve since 1989 and is reportedly on a £150,000 salary. He placed a runner up on the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! where he is claimed to have pocketed £250,000.

Upon appearing on the ITV show, Simon admitted he did it because “the money is good”. He refused to disclose how much he was paid, but said it was “enough to get him out of trouble” and compared his pay packet to a “solid gold diamond goblet”. When quizzed by Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid why he took part, Simon said: “Emma [his wife] and the kids have been on for years and years.

“And the money is good, lets not beat around the bush.” Susanna tried to get Simon to reveal how much he earned, but he said: “Enough to get me out of trouble. It was a solid gold diamond goblet, so that gives you some idea.” At the time, it was reported Simon’s net worth was believed to be around £1 million. Simon has recently revealed he suffered up to 12 panic attacks a day as he reflected on his ‘debilitating’ struggle with anxiety.

He said he struggled when he was catapulted to fame as a teenager and claimed it was a lot harder to deal with the pressures of fame when he was younger compared to now. He told Lorraine: “It’s an awful disorder. When it was at its worse, my little finger would go completely numb, my face would go numb, I’d get tunnel vision. You can’t bring yourself out [from yourself]. You feel dizzy, sick, your heart feels like it’s coming out of your chest. It’s completely debilitating.”
