Council’s public protection team ‘will speak to Blackpool restaurant bosses’ after woman’s death

Council officers plan to speak to bosses of a restaurant where a woman was found dead in a disabled toilet.

Emergency services were called to the Gurkha Restaurant in Waterloo Road, Blackpool, on Saturday November 30 after the body of 47-year-old mum Sabrina Lyttle was discovered.

Licensing authority Blackpool Council has now confirmed that officers from its public protection team have been made aware of Sabrina’s death and plan to speak to bosses at Gurkha following the restaurant’s Christmas closure.

A Blackpool Council spokesperson, said: “Our public protection team has recently been made aware of this tragic death. Once the property has reopened after its Christmas closure they will be speaking to the operator.”

Sabrina’s mum Catherine has claimed that her daughter had gone into the restaurant, which serves Chinese, Thai and Indian food, two days before she was found dead.

She posted on Facebook: “My daughter entered the property on Thursday November 28 to use the toilet. Post mortem is still waiting to find the cause of death but her body was not discovered until Saturday afternoon.”

Bosses at the Gurkha Restaurant told LancsLive, that they intend to issue a statement today (January 8).

Lancashire Constabulary has confirmed that the force was made aware of Sabrina’s death at around 1pm on Saturday November 30.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and sadly the body of a woman in her 40s was found dead inside the address. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this time. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
