Customers ‘absolutely gutted’ as Yorkshire department store announces closure

Customers have reacted with shock and dismay to news that a Sheffield department store’s closure plan.

Sandersons, a ’boutique’ family-owned department store at Fox Valley shopping park, Stocksbridge, north Sheffield, opened in 2016 but is set to close in March. It reportedly employs 19 staff.

A company spokesman said: “Following a review of the business, the team at Sandersons Boutique Store have sadly made the difficult decision to close the company’s Fox Valley store.”

Sandersons said it would be focusing on its store in Stroud and on its online business. The Fox Valley store will close in early March, the company said.

The company spokesman added: “We would like to thank our amazing team and all of you who have enjoyed and supported us over the last eight years.

“We have loved being part of the community here but it’s now the right time for us to step aside and allow other businesses to take over this gateway store.”

Customers have expressed their shock at the news. Some said they loved shopping for ‘quality’ products. One woman said the store stocked ‘decent quality’ goods and she was ‘absolutely gutted’ it was due to close.

Another described it as a ‘lovely’ department store with friendly, helpful staff.

One woman posted: “Gutted! Such an amazing store and fantastic staff too! What a huge gap this is going to leave at Fox Valley.”

One woman said: “That’s absolutely disastrous! I think this fabulous department store has really attracted shoppers from far and wide.”

One woman posted: “Sad news, I came all the way from East Yorkshire to shop here. Great selection of Holland and Cooper.”

Several people said they hoped the store would become an M&S food outlet.
