A dad who was killed in a crash with a van on Friday has been named locally as tributes poured in online following the news. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to reports of a crash involving a motorbike and van on Dock Road near the junction with Limekiln Lane in Wallasey at around 2.40pm on Friday, January 17.
Emergency services attended the scene and the motorcyclist – a 25-year-old man – was taken to hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced date later that day. Police confirmed the driver of the van stopped at the scene.
People were quick to pay tribute to the motorcyclist who has been named locally as ‘JJ’. Danny Walsh wrote on Facebook: “Rest in peace JJ lad absolutely gutted mate going to miss you, everyone will, such a lovely lad thoughts are with your family.”
Melissa Casey said: “Rest easy JJ. Thoughts are with all your family and friends.. you won’t be forgotten took far too soon.” Abbie Owens wrote: “This is so sad. RIP JJ.”
Ann Mannion wrote: “How very sad thoughts with this young lads family & friends.” Ron Bunnell said: “Such sad news – thoughts for his family and friends at this sad time.”
“Heartbreaking for his family and friends. RIP young man,” Deborah Jones commented. Jenny Seale said: “So sad my thoughts are with his family and friends right now xx. Love and hugs.”
Police are appealing for who saw the collision to get in touch and while officers conduct CCTV and witness enquiries.
Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “First and foremost, our thoughts and condolences are with victim’s family at this tragic time and we have specially trained officers supporting them. We are in the very early stages of investigating this incident and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to please get in touch.
“If you were driving through the area at the time of the incident, please review your dashcam to see if you captured anything significant that could help our inquiries. Road closures will remain in place this evening so please avoid the area and updates will be issued when the road is reopened.”
