Sir David Jason, the beloved actor known for his role in Only Fools and Horses, has candidly spoken about his recent health challenges as he admitted “I’d be crippled”.
The veteran actor, who is due to celebrate his 85th birthday next month, revealed he’s been dealing with leg problems likely caused by a hip replacement surgery last October.
Despite the discomfort he’s experienced, he expressed gratitude for modern medical advancements in an interview with Woman’s Weekly: “My god, aren’t we lucky that we can do that? If we weren’t living in the time when these operations are normal every day, you would be crippled.”
In a previous conversation with the Sunday Times, Sir David admitted that it wasn’t only his mobility that has been affected by ageing, saying that it has also impacted his memory: “My memory isn’t what it used to be … Most of us reach this point when things aren’t quite as bright as they used to be.”

Nevertheless, despite the mobility issues from his hip operation, he considers himself fortunate to maintain good overall health, noting he’s never needed a hearing aid or glasses.
With an impressive career spanning over six decades, Jason first stepped into the acting scene in 1965 with a role in the BBC panto Mother Goose.
Sir David is perhaps best known for his role as Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in the BBC’s hit sitcom Only Fools and Horses. The show first aired in 1981 and it wasn’t long before Sir David was recognised for his significant contribution to British television, winning five BAFTAs for his performance, reports the Express.
Speaking about how he is remembered by so many for his role as Del Boy, he told the BBC last year: “I’m delighted in one way that it has reached so many people and they’ve enjoyed what I’ve done with the character, but I’ve done so many other things that people seem to have forgotten about.”
More recently, he stepped away from acting and starred alongside Jay Blades in David and Jay’s Touring Toolshed last year, where they travelled across the country meeting others with a passion for craftsmanship and restoration.
