Devon park could be transformed into thriving family area

Cullompton Town Council is on a mission to improve its parks. Tufty Park, near Willowbank Primary School, has recently been refurbished and is now enjoyed by local youngsters.

Now the hope is to transform Upcott Field, adjacent to St Andrew’s Primary School, into an amazing space for families. Plans are afoot to install a path to encourage residents of all ages and abilities to access the park for fresh air, relaxation, exercise and enjoyment. The idea is to create something for everyone with new play equipment, a trim trail, a youth area, a nature area and seating.

The council have set aside an amount of £100,000 for the improvements. Still, with a decent climbing frame costing upwards of £15,000 (and a similar amount for delivery, installation & safety surfacing), this won’t be enough to provide everything on their wish list, so they are reaching out to the local community.

To date, a community tree planting session has taken place, and children from St Andrew’s Primary School have also planted saplings, so 105 young native trees are now in position along the hedge boundary. These will encourage birds and other wildlife to the park and provide an area for nature study. Further improvements are scheduled for the spring.
