These dramatic photos show the damage after a lorry crashed into the central reservation on the A380 near Kingsteignton in Devon. The single-vehicle collision left the southbound carriageway closed for several hours overnight.
The incident occurred shortly after 1am this morning, Thursday, January 9, with traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reporting at the time: “A380 southbound closed due to accident from B3195 (Ideford/Combe turn-off) to A381 Teignmouth Road (Ware Barton roundabout).”
The incident had been cleared by 7.20am, although one lane still remains closed as of 10.50am while accident investigation work is carried out. Traffic is said to be coping well.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at around 1.15am on Thursday 9 January following a report of a lorry going through the central reservation on the A380 at Kingsteignton. A carriageway was closed as a result. The driver was uninjured. The road was cleared by 7.20am.”
It came as a yellow weather warning for ice was issued by the Met Office covering most of Devon, and was in place overnight up until 10.30am today (January 9). The warning cautioned that “many cold wet surfaces are likely to freeze,” which may create “icy conditions in places”.
