Dudley Zoo staff have been left ‘incredibly saddened’ by the ‘sudden death’ of a much-loved animal. A giant anteater called Miguel has died at the age of one.
The zoo said Miguel had ‘died suddenly’ this morning (Monday, January 13). A post mortem was due to be carried out to ‘establish a cause of death’.
The tragic news was shared on the zoo’s Facebook page. The post read: “We’ve some very sad news to bring you, as Miguel, our one-year-old giant anteater died suddenly this morning. We are all incredibly saddened by his passing and a post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish a cause of death.”

The post was flooded with visitors paying tribute to Miguel, who celebrated his first birthday on December 17 last year. One read: “That’s so incredibly sad. Sending love to the Dudley Zoo team and his keepers, must be a heartbreaking time for you.”

A second said: “He was such a cute, lovely animal who will be sadly missed by many.” A third wrote: “When he was little I loved watching him on mom, he was the cutest animal at zoo. So sad.”
A fourth commented: “Sorry to hear this let’s hope some questions are answered for you all soon. Thought are with you.”
