Dunelm has given an everyday item a ‘vintage’ look, doubled its size and made it multipurpose. With the Churchgate Tambor Bread Bin, there’s no longer any need to have to root around in a typical bin for ends of bread.
This two-layer storage unit means you can store different breads, cakes and pastries and be able to see them as soon as you roll up the door. Our shopping editors say the ‘retro’ look takes us back to granny’s kitchen’.
Costing £40, many shoppers are using it for items other than bread, such as medicines and sundry kitchen paraphernalia. It gets a 4.2 star rating from more than 60 reviews. One happy shopper said: “Best thing since sliced bread. Smooth roll top action. Holds two large loaves comfortably. Makes keeping my worktop tidy a little bit easier.”

Another added: “Really lovely storage unit. I’m not actually using it as a bread bin, general storage instead and it’s just what I’d been looking for.”

A third agreed: “Absolutely gorgeous old fashioned bread bin, taller than most bread bins but has loads of space for bakery items, I have my biscuit packs in here as well. Love the shelf and the roll top lid saves you having to pull the bread bin out to get to the contents.”
Another added that they were using it for other items: “Stylish addition to the kitchen. Actually used for keeping all of our tablets in, a shelf each, keeps them out of sight.”
However, one offered a word of warning: “Looks good and is quite sturdy. Normal size loaves fit in easily. You have to be aware that if anything gets caught at the back the front sliding door gets caught. I had left a bread knife in the top section and had a real job to get it out. The top is just right for sitting my radio on so a real bonus.”
Dunelm describes the bread bin as follows: “Keep your bread, homemade pastries and goodies fresh for longer in our incredible two layer bread bin. It features a rolling close door which can simply be pulled up and down and is finished in a classy cream and natural colourway to suit any kitchen decors.”
