The year has started with some tough economic news for the government, which has caused fears that further cuts to public spending could be on the way. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has been under pressure after the value of the pound dropped and borrowing costs soared, although things have improved in recent days with the economy returning to growth – however small.

But against this tricky backdrop, there are increasing reports that Ms Reeves is considering further spending reductions to try and get the economy back on track – which could include further cuts to sickness and disability benefits. As The Independent reports, such cuts would come on top of the £3bn already planned for savings from the Department of Work and Pensions.

Further cuts to benefits budgets would be a concern for the many people relying on them. For those that do, the DWP has confirmed what support will be paid when next month.
