EasyJet explains luggage limit that applies to all customers

EasyJet passengers are being reminded to familiarise themselves with the luggage allowance rules after a customer raised a query. The person questioned the airline on social media, asking: “If I have purchased a baggage allowance of 26kg for my flight, can I split this over two suitcases?”

In response, easyJet clarified the rules, stating: “Please be advised if you booked one hold bag, you will have to bring only one hold bag.” The standard baggage weight limit is 23kg, but travellers have the option to increase their allowance in 3kg increments to a maximum of 32kg.

For lighter travel, there’s also a 15kg suitcase option, which may be enough for short trips. Each passenger can purchase up to three check-in bags and those flying with family or friends can pool their combined weight allotment.

The easyJet website states : “This means that the total weight allowance can be split among the total number of bags booked, as long as no single item weighs more than 32kg. Maximum total size (length + width + height) = under 275cm.”

Each traveller is also permitted to carry one small cabin bag with a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm free of charge. If necessary, you can also book in a large cabin bag, not exceeding dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including handles and wheels.

If you opt for a large bag on your booking, you’ll also get the perk of speedy boarding. There’s a limit of two cabin bags per person when flying, which includes one small bag plus one large bag.

In a notice issued to travellers on Sunday, December 29, easyJet provided an update following several flight cancellations from Gatwick Airport due to dense fog. A company representative commented: “Due to ongoing poor weather conditions resulting in air traffic control restrictions and delays at London Gatwick today, some flights this evening are now unable to operate as planned.

“We are doing all we can to minimise the impact of the weather for our customers, providing options to rebook or a refund for cancelled flights, as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.” The airline assures passengers that if their flight is cancelled, they can switch to an alternative flight for free.

The official easyJet site advises: “If you’re already at the airport, you’ll need to collect any checked luggage from baggage reclaim and go through customs, before restarting your journey – check in again with your new booking and clear security. Please note that you can only select flights to or from the same countries as you had originally booked.”
