Explore the real-life UK locations of ‘We Live in Time’ starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh | My London News

The hotly anticipated romantic drama We Live in Time starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh has hit cinemas today (January 1st), already captivating audiences with the undeniable chemistry of its lead actors.

Audiences can dive into a complex love story as ‘We Live In Time’ plays with time itself, unfurling across multiple timelines. The film explores the intensity and mundanities of Tobias and Almut’s lives, from marriage and family to confronting serious illness.

Shot across locales illustrious for their charm, the film commenced principal photography in April 2023, set against the backdrop of South London and Surrey County.

Herne Hill serves as the narrative heart of the production, being both home for the characters and the site of many on-location shoots.

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, along with the production crew, were seen filming at distinct locations including Brockwell Park, Orpington’s Texaco petrol station, the bustling Herne Hill station square and the essential Co-Op at Blackfen.

Film enthusiasts and those captivated by the movie’s settings have the unique opportunity to walk the paths of the protagonists, as these sites are unreservedly accessible to anyone exploring the iconic UK grounds, reports the Mirror.

Director John Crowley, in partnership with production designer Alice Normington, meticulously crafted the film’s setting, endeavouring to convey the impression that certain places are intrinsically tied to one’s experiences.

Crowley shared his insights on the significance of location: “We talked a lot about how certain places become part of your DNA. Alice did a wonderful job working not only with the couple’s various work and nesting spaces but also with the very liminal spaces that are important to the film: roads and petrol stations and convenience stores that are expressive of contemporary urban life.”

The film’s director shared that choosing Herne Hill as the setting was deliberate, aiming to “break out of the romantic genre’s usual conventions” and select a location that wasn’t stereotypically glamorous.

“We wanted a London that is simply itself and allows all the happiness and sadness that two people go through in life to take centre stage,” he explained.

As the tale unfolds, the characters shift to the idyllic British countryside with scenes shot in Hascombe near Godalming.

Lead actor Andrew, who grew up there, remarked on the experience, saying it “renegotiated my relationship to my home county”, especially after he had been so eager to leave in his youth to chase his acting ambitions.

We Live in Time made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and has since been met with critical acclaim.
