‘Every parent’s worst fear when they drop their baby off’

Floral tributes and messages have been left in memory of a two-year-old boy who died following a medical episode at nursery. Several bouquets of flowers have been left by the railings outside Early Learners Day Nursery on Hawthorne Road, Bootle in memory of the toddler.
Merseyside Police was called to the nursery at around 12.35pm on Tuesday, January 14 following reports a child had suffered a medical episode. The boy was taken to hospital by paramedics, where he was sadly pronounced dead. Police have today confirmed an investigation to establish the full circumstances and cause of death is underway and the boy’s family is being supported.
Following his tragic death, a message was sent to parents from the nursery. It said: “Dear parents and carers, as you are aware, this afternoon a medical emergency occurred at the nursery. It is with devastating sadness that we have to inform you of a child’s passing.
“To enable everyone to process today’s tragic events, we have made the decision to close the nursery for the remainder of the week, and also to allow us to continue working with relevant agencies.

“We trust that you understand our decision at this difficult time and we will update you all with further information in the coming days. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.” The ECHO approached Early Learners Day Nursery for comment.
Tributes to the two-year-old have also flooded in on social media. Charlie Robinson said: “R.I.P you beautiful little boy! Fly high mate – what a beautiful boy you were.” Nickie Jones added: “Every parent’s worst fear when they drop their baby off. Thinking of the family and staff. Absolutely heartbreaking.”

JR Robbo said: I cannot imagine the absolute heartbreak and unimaginable loss for the parents and family, and also all the staff at early learners they are amazing staff and I imagine they are all heartbroken and numb by the loss of the little boy, my thoughts go out to everyone involved and to the little boy rest in peace.” Debbie Orme added: “Heartbreaking the poor family and nursery staff. Thinking of you all.”
The full police statement said: “We can confirm that an investigation is underway following reports that a two-year-old boy suffered a fatal medical episode at a children’s nursery in Bootle. The incident was reported at around 12.35pm yesterday, Tuesday 14 January, at Early Learners Day Nursery, on Hawthorne Road, and the child was taken to hospital by paramedics.
“He was sadly pronounced deceased at hospital and his family is being supported. An investigation has been commenced to establish the full circumstances and cause of death.”
