Free cinema tickets are set to be released on what is dubbed the most depressing day of the year – Blue Monday.
Escapes, an initiative supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), is on a mission to provide everyone the opportunity to enjoy the big screen experience for free.
Promising an incredible year of free independent film, Escapes will announce free tickets for a new film every month.
The scheme will kick off on January 20, with tickets for screenings of the 1990s cult-classic, Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
The action packed movie will land in more than 140 cinemas, including screens in Croydon and Sidcup.
With Reeves as Johnny Utah, an FBI agent who goes undercover with a group of surfers, led by Swayze’s charismatic Bodhi, who are suspects in a series of bank robberies, and directed by the Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, Point Break is a film best seen on the big screen.
Every screening of Point Break will feature descriptive subtitles to ensure it’s accessible to a wider audience.
Shining a light on the charm of independent cinema and spotlighting hidden gems, Escapes is partnering with leading cinema chains including Picturehouse and Reel cinemas, as well as independent venues across the UK throughout 2025.
