Figures on the proportion of ambulance patients waiting at hospitals last week for more than 30 minutes have been released as winter pressures hit the NHS. The figures detail the amount of patients who were left waiting for more than 30 minutes to be handed to A&E teams in the hospital.
The figures are broken down by NHS trust and have been compiled by the PA news agency from data published by NHS England. The smallest trusts – with fewer than 50 arrivals in the week ending December 29 2024 – have been excluded. Towards the top end of the list is Worcestershire Acute Hospitals and the Dudley Group, with University Hospitals Birmingham and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire further down.
Speaking at the end of December, NHS national medical director, Professor Sir Stephen Powis said the winter flu season hitting early, combined with increased gatherings over Christmas and seasonal illnesses have added significant pressure to the health service. You can find out where your NHS Trust sits in the figures below.

NHS national medical director, Professor Sir Stephen Powis, said: “The winter flu season has not only hit the NHS early this year, but it is potentially on track to be one of the worst we have ever seen, as the ‘quad-demic’ continues to increase pressure across services.
“Frontline NHS staff are currently under significant pressure – and as families and friends have gathered over the festive period and to celebrate the new year, we expect the peak of seasonal viruses is yet to come.” He went on to thanks NHS staff who “despite huge demand, continue to work tirelessly to keep patients safe and provide them with the best possible care.”
Dr Powis added: “Anyone who needs medical support should continue to use services as normal – 999 and A&E only in an emergency, and for other urgent health needs, use NHS 111 or 111 online.”
The list has been ordered by the percentage of handovers longer than 30 minutes, starting with the highest. It reads, from left to right: name of NHS trust, total number of handovers where time was known, number of handovers longer than 30 minutes, percentage of handovers longer than 30 minutes.
