Children are facing another day of disruption due to the wintry weather across Greater Manchester. The region has woken up to temperatures well below zero this morning (January 8).
It comes after snow and flooding in recent days, with roads and pavements icy today. A yellow weather warning for ice from the Met Office is in force until midday.
A UK Health Security Agency cold health alert for the North West is also in force amid days of bitter temperatures. Some schools across Greater Manchester are keeping their doors closed today due to adverse weather conditions.
Bramhall High School, in Stockport, is one of the first to confirm its closure – with students set to learn from home. In a post on the school’s Facebook page, a school spokesperson said: “Bramhall High is closed to both students and staff today.
“Regrettably, we are unable to open today despite the amazing efforts of our site team since 4am. Large swathes of ice dominate the site and it is simply not safe. Work will be set by teachers on Class Charts. Thank you for your understanding.”
Lymm High School, near Warrington, has closed due to the weather today. Hawthorns SEND school, in Tameside, and Burnley Brow Community School, in Oldham, are also closed amid icy conditions.
