Gavin & Stacey’s Melanie Walters discusses potential Gwen and Dave Coaches spin-off

As Gavin & Stacey concluded with an emotional finale last month, Melanie Walters, who portrays the character Gwen, has hinted at the possibility of a spin-off show featuring her character.

During a recent episode of the Off The Telly podcast, host Natalie Cassidy asked Gavin & Stacey star Melanie about the potential for a show centred around Gwen and Dave’s ‘In the house’.

Melanie left fans in suspense with her response, simply stating “I don’t know, I don’t know.”

Throughout the series, Melanie’s character was often seen caring for others, but it wasn’t until the final episode that viewers saw her prioritise her own love life, becoming romantically involved with Dave Coaches, played by Steffan Rhodri.

While Melanie remained tight-lipped about the prospect of starring in her own spin-off alongside her on-screen partner, she suggested that another cast member would be keen to see a revival of Gavin and Stacey, despite the series concluding last month.

Joanne, co-host of the Off the Telly podcast alongside EastEnders star Natalie, revealed: “Anytime anybody asks Larry (Lamb, who plays Gavin’s dad Mick Shipman) though, he always goes ‘yes, of course! ‘ “.

After its initial release in May 2007, the sitcom ‘Gavin and Stacey’ soared to success, reaping positive ratings and garnering a dedicated fanbase. Its popularity was such that the show made a swift comeback a year later, with another series quickly following suit, reports Wales Online.

The cherished BBC sitcom drew to a poignant close last month, with James Corden and Ruth Jones, both writers and co-stars, wrapping up the narrative in a highly-anticipated Christmas special.

James Corden shared memories from the final day of shooting on Graham Norton’s show; he reflected, “Everyone was there at the end with lots of crying. Joanna who plays Stacey pretty much cried every day. There were lots of goodbyes. It was very emotional.”

Prior to starring as Gwen in Gavin and Stacey, Melanie had appeared in a string of notable TV and theatre roles down the years, but, perhaps her most memorable TV performance came in 1991 when she was cast as Valerie Jennings in ITV’s Coronation Street.
