Gloucestershire’s best pub has been crowned and it’s located near the M5

What is the best pub in Gloucestershire? It’s home to so many places to share a drink with friends or make memories watching the local game, so it can be tricky to find the best of the best.

Defining what is the best pub in the county comes down to a number of factors. How affordable is it? What is the drinks menu like? Does it provide a unique atmosphere or great quality food?

One travel expert has taken the bold step to identify the best pub in each county in England. Writing for the Telegraph, Will Hawkes has compiled the blockbuster list with the best pub in Gloucestershire being located on the edge of the Cotswolds.

The Old Spot, in Dursley (near the M5), was named as the best pub in the county. Hosting regular events, the pub earned acclaim for providing a pub atmosphere rather than a pub and restaurant feel.

Will Hawkes said: “Located on the edge of the Cotswolds, the Old Spot shares the virtues of the region’s pubs without their all-too-common drawbacks. This is a pub not a restaurant, offering simple but high-quality food, excellent beer and, crucially, a proper pub atmosphere. There are regular events, including an annual pre-Christmas visit from folk-theatre group the Waterley Bottom Mummers.”

The pub is set within a historic building which dates back to 1776 and has won numerous awards In the last 30 years. In 2007, it was the CAMRA National Pub of the Year winner.
