‘Gorgeous’ BAFTA award-winning film available to watch for free – here’s where you can tune in

The award-winning historical romantic drama film, Pride and Prejudice, is scheduled to air on television this weekend.

The critically acclaimed movie will be broadcast tonight (January 11) at 6:35pm on BBC Two, providing a perfect plan for your Saturday evening.

For those who might miss the airing, the film will also be available on BBC iPlayer at a later date. Based on Jane Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name, Pride and Prejudice was directed by Joe Wright and released in 2005.

It tells the story of five sisters from an English family of landed gentry as they navigate issues of marriage, morality and misconceptions. Keira Knightley stars as Elizabeth Bennet, with Matthew Macfayden playing Mr Darcy, who falls in love with her.

The film boasts a stellar supporting cast including Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Judi Dench and Carey Mulligan. The romantic drama was a box office hit, grossing $121.6 million from a budget of $28 million.

It was widely praised by critics and fans alike, with many highlighting Keira’s performance. The film received numerous accolades, including four nominations at the 78th Academy Awards, with Keira, then 20, becoming the third-youngest Best Actress nominee at the time, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The film not only won the hearts of audiences but also earned the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for Joe Wright in his directorial debut. Wright has since directed a host of remarkable films, including Atonement, Hanna, and The Woman in the Window.

For two decades, Pride and Prejudice has been receiving accolades from fans, boasting a 7.8 rating on IMDb and an impressive 87% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside an 89% audience approval Popcornmeter.
