Homes Under the Hammer star ‘calls the police’ after terrifying discovery at property

In a truly explosive edition of Monday’s Homes Under the Hammer, viewers saw Chaddesden couple Lee and Laura get a shock at their new property.

Securing a Derby lot for £60,000 at auction, the pair landed the “developer’s dream,” complete with planning permission for a four-bedroom townhouse.

Dubbing the find “a developer’s dream come true,” host Dion Dublin was left astounded by a startling revelation the plot’s past had an unexpected twist.

Lee, running his own building firm, made a chilling discovery while clearing the site: nestled within the undergrowth lay a live hand grenade, reports Derbyshire Live.

Laura recounted the discovery, saying, “We found a bomb, didn’t we?” prompting a surprised Dion to respond with hands raised, “Hold on, what?”

“It was quite scary,” she continued before Lee detailed the moment of alarm: “There was a 20-ft hedge along this fence, about six ft deep, and when the lads were digging it out, they came across a hand grenade.”

The dramatic day unfolded with police intervention and a bomb squad attendance, leading to an evacuation which would certainly leave neighbours talking.

Despite the alarming incident, the couple affirmed the plot was perfect for their home-building plans.

The couple planned to build a three-story home with a £170,000 budget to rent out to generate passive income. Laura explained that they wanted it to be a family home with a high-spec finish.

The house will have a large garden, a driveway with EV charging points, and a heat pump to reduce carbon emissions.

Lee’s team of eleven employees and contractors carried out the project. Their goal was to finish the Derby property in eight to ten months.

A local estate agent estimated that, upon completion, they could rent the property for approximately £1,200 per calendar month or sell it for £325,000.
