Huge cannabis farm found inside former Worcester home after ‘concerns’

A huge cannabis farm was found inside a former residential home during a late-night police raid in Worcester. More than 1,000 cannabis plants were seized from the Ombersley Road property last night, January 15.

Officers raided the address after concerns from the community that the property had been left insecure. Cannabis plants of various stages of growth, and vacuum-packed harvested crops, were seized from inside.

They were found across 10 rooms – including in the cellar of the building. No-one was at the property, but police said there was evidence of people living there.

This included mobile phones which were seized and will now be analysed. Police said the discovery was being linked to an organised crime gang.

Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Worcester, Tanya Beckett, said: “We received a report of concerns over an insecure property on Ombersley Road and went to investigate yesterday evening. Our officers uncovered a large-scale cannabis grow which is being linked to an organised crime gang and an investigation has been launched.

“This shows we will always listen to concerns raised by the public, act on upon them swiftly and investigate where necessary. Illegal enterprises such as this will not be tolerated in West Mercia.

“We will continue to proactively work with the community to identify them, disrupt the gangs and shut them down. The public are our eyes and ears on the streets.”
