Hunt for culprits who torched derelict Greater Manchester school continues

Police are yet to identify the culprits who torched a disused Trafford school. Emergency services descended Lydney Road, in Flixton, on Tuesday afternoon (January 7).

A fire had broken out at the former Trafford High School, which has stood derelict since being closed in 2020. Multiple fire engines were sent to the scene.

Eyewitnesses claimed a group of children were seen entering the building shortly before the blaze broke out. In an update issued today (Thursday), Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the suspects remained at large.

A GMP spokesperson said: “An investigation was opened. All lines of enquiry have been followed and a suspect has not been identified, at this time.”

Crews spent around 90 minutes tackling the fire at the boarded up building. No injuries were reported following the fire.
