Hunt for masked men with machetes as armed police descend on Huddersfield village

Armed police officers were brought in to hunt for two masked men carrying machetes in a Huddersfield village last night.

The masked men were seen trying to force their way into a house in Scar Lane at Milnsbridge, Huddersfield. The men remain at large and no arrests have been made. West Yorkshire Police said the remnants of a small cannabis farm were found at the address in Scar Lane.

Some residents in Scar Lane were left alarmed on seeing armed officers in the area. One mum said she didn’t want to speak about the incident as she was worried about her children. Others said they had seen the police helicopter hovering over the scene for some time. Police are understood to have set up a roadblock towards the bottom of Scar Lane, near to the junction with Britannia Road.

Today a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called just after 10pm last night (Thursday, January 16) to reports of two males wearing balaclavas and armed with machetes forcing entry to a house in Scar Lane, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield.

“Armed officers and the police helicopter were deployed to the area. Remnants of a small cannabis farm were found at the address and investigations are continuing.”
