‘I refused to pay EasyJet’s £100 fee and found a genius £2 hand luggage solution instead’

Whether you’re counting down the days until you can jet off on a winter getaway or you have a beach holiday booked for later on in the year, you’ll no doubt be thinking about the essentials you have and the bits you need to pick up. Adding extra luggage to your ticket can be expensive – often costing more than the flight itself – which is why maximising the space you’re given for free is essential.

If you’re flying with EasyJet, for example, you’re only allowed to bring one small personal bag on the aircraft for free. Jet2 is a little more lenient and offers travellers the ability to carry hand luggage that weighs no more than 10kg and no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm as well as a small, personal bag on the aircraft at no extra cost.

I went on holiday to France last summer and the airline wanted an extra £100 for checked luggage – which I refused to pay. Instead, I opted to use Amazon’s £23 Ryanair cabin bag to pack my essentials – and I was blown away by how much I was able to fit in. Now, I’ve found found a way to get a similar underseat bag for less than £3 at Groupon.

The deals website has slashed the price of the viral 18L PVC Coated Waterproof Cabin Backpack Travel Bag from £33.92 to £17.99. While this is already a good offer – and cheaper than Amazon – by making your purchase through TopCashback, shoppers can get it for just £2.09, reports the Manchester Evening News.

That’s because TopCashback is offering a free £15 sign-up bonus as well as 6% cashback to new members. That means you’ll get £15.90 returned back to your account, ready to be sent to your bank or PayPal account.

The 18L PVC Coated Waterproof Cabin Backpack Travel Bag is 24cm x 20cm x 39cm, making it suitable for taking on most budget airline flights for free of charge, including the likes of EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair. It features a main suitcase-style opening main compartment as well as front pockets to hold headphones, loose change and other essentials.

The thick padded shoulder straps, handles and back panel make the bag comfy to wear, even if it’s stuffed to the brim. It’s also made out of a water-resistant material so you don’t have to worry about your belongings being ruined if you’re caught out in the rain on the way to your destination.

How to claim your £2 underseat cabin bag

  1. To claim the new member bonus, new members of TopCashback need to sign up via this link
  2. Search for Groupon and click ‘Get Cashback Now’
  3. Shop and checkout as usual
  4. Cashback will then track and appear in your TopCashback account within 7 working days of your purchase.

While the Cabin Backpack hasn’t got any reviews yet online, it is almost guaranteed to make travelling that little bit easer in 2025. Elsewhere, Debenhams is offering an underseat cabin bag from from Cabin Max in seven fun colours and prints for £35.

If there’s more room in your budget, Antler is running its massive winter sale with up to 30% off, including the Essential Backpack which is now £92 instead of £115. Or the Expandable Logo Cabin Suitcase in Aspen Green is now £105 instead of £170.
