We’re all quite used to supermarkets telling us they have the best deals aren’t we? But it doesn’t always work out to be the case.
But there’s one supermarket that’s gone all out this January with its ‘largest ever deals event’ – and it ain’t half bad.
Having heard about the offers, including the 10 for £10 deal on a host of frozen family favourites from the likes of Birds Eye and Chicago Town – brands my kids love – I thought I’d give the place a whirl.
With this week’s snow, the fact that I could get a next day delivery slot for free when spending over £40 was an added bonus.
As was the voucher I discovered in my emails – as a previous customer – to get the £10 deal for £6, quite literally winner winner chicken dinner.
This entire food shop came to £35

I got 10 items with that deal, including two boxes of Birds Eye Chicken Dippers, a bag of Alphabites, a box of Crispy Battered Fish Fingers, two boxes of Young’s Chip Shop Omega 3 Fish Fillets, a box of Chicago Town Subs Pizza, some Breaded Chicken Fingers and two bags of Richmond Sausages.
But it wasn’t the only deal worth snapping up.
I also took advantage of a separate 5 for £5 deal, which brought down the price of our usual favourites like the Warburtons Toastie loaf, crumpets, potato cakes and pittas, as well as Heinz beans and Holland’s Potato and Meat Pies.
And you can get that deal as many times as you like, meaning I was able to order loads more products, including orange juice, Soreen Malt Loaf, tortilla wraps, naan breads, Sheldon’s Oven Bottom Muffins, angel cake and more, all for a quid each.
There’s a 10 for £10 offer on frozen food, but I’d been emailed a voucher to get it for £6

A separate 6 for £3 offer brought the price of tinned tomatoes and peas to 50p each, including the Batchelors brand which cost anything from 60p to 75p elsewhere.
And to finish off my shop, I headed to the £1 or less section, where I was able to pick up fruit and veg, including a pineapple, bananas, broccoli, onions and mushrooms for a quid each, and the likes of a 1kg bag of carrots and Blue Dragon stir fry sauces for less.
Admittedly a few of these items can be picked up a bit cheaper elsewhere – like the carrots you can buy at most supermarkets for 69p a bag, rather than Iceland’s 85p – but there’s not much in it, and you’re more than making up for it with the huge savings on other products.
Lots of the fruit and veg is in the £1 or less section

Overall my food bill came to £35, which is incredible giving the haul I got. I beefed it up to the £40 spend to get delivery by buying some of its own laundry products that shoppers have been praising recently.
The Home Laundry Liquid Non-Bio detergent for instance costs just £2 for a 50 wash bottle.
Launching its January offers, Richard Walker, executive chairman of Iceland Foods, said: “We know families are looking to reduce spending in all aspects of everyday life and we know that we need to do our bit to help.
“January will be a struggle for millions, it’s no secret that bills are going to rise and it’s going to hit some families extremely hard. That’s why we’re stepping up, expanding our £1 or less lines and introducing hundreds of deals.”
If my shop is anything to go buy, I’d say it’s well worth taking a look.
None of the products in my shop cost more than £1
