A dad fears he won’t be able to buy food or pay bills after his “main source of income” was taken away. Daniel Lewis, 35, was looking forward to a “fresh start” after recently moving to the Sefton Park area, but then his bike, which he uses for his job as a courier, was taken from his building, leaving him with “huge financial pressure”.
Daniel told the ECHO: “I moved in about one month ago, I had to get set up for Christmas and my birthday was last month. I’ve been going through a breakup, everything was up in the air, it has been a hard time. I had to leave my other job and was lucky that I had the bike to be able to keep a good income and do my delivery job.
“I went out on my bike on Sunday (December 29) to meet my friend on Lark Lane and my left pedal fell off on the way back home. I started feeling quite ill on the way back to my flat and when I got back to my building I locked the bike inside [in the entrance to the building] and rushed upstairs because I felt sick. I fell asleep and woke up feeling really unwell. I was bedbound for the next few days.
“I spent three days in bed with norovirus. On New Year’s Eve my daughter came to visit me and the bike was still downstairs. Then, on New Year’s Day, I went downstairs because I was finally feeling better enough to go out and the bike wasn’t there.”
Daniel says he doesn’t know what he is going to do as without his bike as he will be unable to work. He said: “Now I’m going to have to find a new bike or I’m going to be out of work. It’s a worry because Christmas cost me a lot of money, I’ve only just moved into this building and I’m supposed to be starting fresh.
“Moving in here was supposed to be a fresh start and this happens. I don’t even know how I’m going to cover my bills, the financial pressure this brings. It’s the beginning of the month and my bills are already coming in. I’ve got to buy food, pay bills and have a good time. I don’t know how I’ll manage if I can’t work. My main focus in life is my daughter, whenever she is with me I want to make sure I’ve got all her favourite things and she enjoys her time with me, I’m going to struggle.

“Times are hard enough at the moment anyway never mind with potentially being out of work. The building is locked, how have they got in? And it’s missing a pedal.”
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We had a report that a black and grey Carrera bike had been taken from the communal hallway of a property on Ullet Road between 12pm on Tuesday 31 December and 8pm on Wednesday 1 January.
“CCTV enquiries have been carried out in the local area. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting reference 25000006018.”
