ITV Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson has three years to settle huge debt or ‘risks selling home’

Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson, known for his role as Steve McDonald, could potentially be forced to sell his home if he fails to repay a £252,000 loan taken from his production company. Official documents reveal that Gregson and his wife Emma are required to pay back £1,500 per month to Simon Gregson Productions.

Despite the paperwork indicating that the couple, who have been married for 14 years and share three sons, are no longer together, sources from Coronation Street maintain that they are still happily married. The report stipulates that they have three years to settle the debt, failing which they would need to sell their family home.

It states: “The Director had an overdrawn loan account of £252,824. The analysis also revealed that this money was removed from the Company’s bank account and paid into Mr Gregory’s joint bank account with his estranged wife. Therefore, any claim would be addressed to both individuals.”

In 2023, Gregson liquidated Simon Gregson Productions Ltd, leaving debts of £165,000 to HMRC and Coutts bank for a Covid bounceback loan. Last year, it was disclosed that he was selling his office equipment in an attempt to clear his debts, offering the furniture along with £6,000 in cash.

An initial report stated: “Due to the age and condition of the equipment it is anticipated any realisations will be minimal,” reports the Mirror.

Coronation Street stalwarts Bill Roache, Michael Le Vell, and Sally Dynevor have all inked new year-long contracts, bringing stability to the show amidst recent departures. The soap was rocked by the unexpected exit of Colson Smith, who portrayed Craig Tinker for 14 years, and Charlotte Jordan’s decision to leave her role as Daisy Midgeley.

Helen Worth, famed for her 50-year stint as Gail Platt, made her departure on Christmas Day, while Sue Cleaver, known as Eileen Grimshaw, is also taking a break. Additionally, characters like Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan, and Debbie Webster, portrayed by Sue Devaney, have been written out.

Bill Roache, who at 92 is the world’s longest-serving TV soap actor, has been portraying Ken Barlow since 1960. Starting with a salary of £70 a week, he now reportedly earns £250,000 annually and has no intention of retiring. He shared his ambition: “My aim is to be 100 and still working on Coronation Street. While they want me and while I can do it I’ll continue to do it.”

Michael Le Vell, 60, has been a part of the Corrie cast since 1983 as mechanic Kevin Webster. His character is set to face a challenging storyline involving testicular cancer, which will heavily impact his relationship with Abi, played by Sally Carmen.
