ITV Emmerdale’s Joe Tate and Noah Dingle family link explained as fans ‘rumble’ real plan

In the latest episode of Emmerdale aired on Monday, Joe Tate made an effort to mend his relationship with Noah Dingle.

Joe, who made a surprise return during the Christmas season, presented his younger brother Noah with VIP tickets to a Leeds match.

This extravagant gesture and Joe’s attempts to reconnect with Noah left the latter’s mother, Charity Dingle, deeply concerned.

In a bid to safeguard her son, Charity enlisted Ross Barton to warn off Joe. Long-time viewers of the soap will be familiar with Joe’s backstory and his family connection to Noah.

However, for those new to the show, this might come as a revelation. Here’s a rundown of Joe’s family history…

Actor Ned Porteous first graced the village as Joe in 2017, portraying the orphaned son of Christopher Tate and Rachel Hughes. After a twelve-year absence, Joe returned to Emmerdale under the pseudonym Tom Waterhouse in 2017, reports Leeds Live.

He quickly began a romantic relationship with Charity’s daughter, Debbie Dingle, using his alias Tom as part of a revenge plot against Charity.

Joe held Charity responsible for the death of his father Chris, who was once married to Charity. Chris poisoned himself in 2003 in a bid to frame Charity for murder following her affair with Cain Dingle.

Charity gave birth to Noah in 2004, several months after the death of his biological father Chris, making Noah Joe’s younger half-brother.

However, Joe’s ‘true’ identity was soon unmasked when he evicted Debbie and her children, ending their relationship and coldly confessing that she was merely collateral damage in his vendetta against Charity.

Not long after, Joe repurchased his childhood home, Home Farm, and moved in. There, he reconciled with Debbie and grew close to his half-brother Noah.

In 2018, Joe made a dramatic exit from the show when he was compelled to flee after Kim, who had been married to his grandfather Frank Tate, ordered his death.

Initially, it seemed that Debbie’s father Cain had inadvertently killed him during an argument, where a single punch resulted in him hitting his head on a rock.

However, it was later revealed that Joe’s right-hand man Graham Foster had concealed the truth – Joe was still alive and living abroad, funded by money from Kim’s companies.

Joe made a comeback in last month’s Christmas episodes, but it seems he’s harbouring a significant secret as his health has been causing concern. Joe has been seen taking various medications and in Friday’s episode, he collapsed and suffered a seizure.

As Joe grapples with health concerns, speculation is rife among soap fans about his intentions for his wealth. Social media has been abuzz with viewers sharing their theories.

On Twitter, now X, one person speculated: “I wonder if Charity were to discover that Joe is terminally ill and Noah is his heir will she have a change of attitude. #emmerdale”, while another fan expressed excitement over the storyline, tweeting: “Joe content! Yay! Tate brothers unite!”

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. It is also available each morning from 07.00am on ITVX.
