ITV Good Morning Britain halted as Ranvir Singh interrupts show to deliver ‘breaking news’

Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh brought the programme to an unexpected pause on Tuesday (January 14) while presenting her regular news segment. She broke into the day’s agenda to announce “breaking news” highlighted by an on-screen banner.

In a dramatic shift from her earlier coverage of ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, Ranvir cut in to deliver the latest developments regarding accusations of election “fix” levelled by President-elect Donald Trump back in 2020 after his loss to Joe Biden. A freshly released Department of Justice report suggests that Trump could have been at risk of conviction.

Emerging details suggest that Trump was on the brink of facing potential charges for attempting to subvert the outcome of the 2020 election as he eyes a comeback in 2024. The special counsel Jack Smith, in his transmission to Congress, voiced: “The admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.”

Originally addressing the disasters caused by the relentless wildfires in Los Angeles, Ranvir suddenly deviated to address the fresh scoop, saying: “Carrying on with news from America and breaking news this morning. US President-elect Donald Trump did act illegally in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.”

ITV host Ranvir, who often fills in for Lorraine Kelly, shed more light on the situation. She told viewers: “According to a new report, special counsel Jack Smith – who has since resigned from the Justice Department, ‘there was enough evidence to convict Donald Trump’ but the case was closed after Trump’s election victory in November.”

Jack Smith, the special counsel who led the investigation into Trump in this case and another, has stepped down from his position. However, he obtained clearance from Judge Aileen Cannon to release the first part of his report, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The 137-page document was submitted to Congress just after midnight (US time) on Tuesday. Following the announcement, the President-elect took to social media to share his thoughts, writing that the prosecutor “was unable to get his case tried before the election, which I won in a landslide”.

“THE VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN! ! ! ,” Donald concluded.
