Grantchester star Robson Green once believed he was suffering a heart attack on the set of the show, his co-star Tom Brittney has revealed. Tom, who will portray vicar Will Davenport for the final time this series, spoke about the moment a medic was called in to assess Robson, aged 60.
Appearing on This Morning alongside his successor Rishi Nair on Wednesday (January 8) ahead of the show returning to ITV at 9pm tonight, he revealed it was actually down to the star drinking too much coffee. He said: “In one series, he [Robson Green] had an espresso machine installed in his trailer and had five espressos before nine o’clock and thought he was having a heart attack.
“We had to get a medic. It was like, ‘Robson, you’ve had too much caffeine.”

Tom recently opened up about his decision to leave the show, stating: “Well, it was one of… it was the hardest decision of my life.
“I’ve spent five or six years – and the happiest years of my career so far – doing Grantchester and playing a character which just has so much depth and complexity. It was just a happy place.
“But I think all good things have to come to an end, and it just felt like the right time to put a full stop, let’s say, on Will’s story and see where they take the story without him.”
He also spoke about the reason he had decided to quit the ITV show, saying: “I left Grantchester a few months ago after six happy years of doing the show. I wanted to see what else was out there and play different people for a while! So currently on the hunt for that exciting next thing.”
Season nine of Grantchester airs tonight (January 8) on ITV1 at 9pm. Fans can catch up online on streaming platform ITVX.
